EXCURSIONS

BABOON PROJECT

This is an extremely interesting project and a great chance to see habituated primates. The research has been going on for approximately 30 years and the team of scientists involved have an incredible knowledge of this baboon troop. Being able to mingle with them at such close quarters without feeling intrusive, listening to your guide’s stories and enjoying his knowledge of all their habits, movements, etc,. is truly fascinating. Politics in a baboon troop makes Game of Thrones look like beginners. The money raised by our visits goes to the local community, on whose land the baboons live, so it’s a great way to help wildlife.

LOLLDAIGA CONSERVATION AREA

This conservation area is to our south east and about 1 hours drive away. A full day with a picnic lunch to look at the wildlife there, together with its incredible scenery and views.

ROCK CLIMBING AND CAMELS

Our neighbours are very keen rock climbers and it is possible to spend a few hours there, climbing some of the large rocky kopjies and cliff faces in the area. Their competent and well-trained guides can take you up some challenging climbs as well as teaching you to absail down. Safety is of great importance and their guides are sent on regular training programmes. They also have a large herd of tried and tested riding camels and, should you wish to spend a day walking with the camels, it is easily arranged.

PRIMARY SCHOOL

A lot of our Kenyan schools are rather understaffed and so, should you know children who might wish to spend some time in a Kenyan school helping the teachers – either for a day or more - they are always delighted to have assistance. It’s a great way to get involved in our local community and English conversation, sports, art, drama, basic maths, etc. are what they like help with. Unfortunately the School lunch programme doesn’t always work as well as it should and so donations of basic ingredients for the children’s lunch is another way to help. However, the very best way to help these extremely underprivileged pupils is to sponsor an extra teacher; to spread the teaching load and thereby give every child better access to instruction.

HELICOPTERS AND SCENIC FLIGHTS

Such fun can be had with a day trip up to the really wild north of Kenya, to Lake Turkana, also known as the Jade Sea, together with the Suguta Valley, with its flamingo filled lakes, flying over it all in a helicopter. Land on the top of a pinnacle rock in the Ndotos or the Mathews Mountain  range for a well earned cup of coffee. The wide, dry river beds of Northern Kenya lead to some exciting quad bike driving through beautiful county, its also an excellent way to have a quick adrenaline rush before lunch.
